12 Days of DIY Christmas Trees #12DaysofTrees

Isn’t burlap a girl’s best friend, anyway?? Or was that diamonds?? Ha ha! Either way, I’ve got you covered with today’s DIY Christmas tree. This one was so easy.. it took just five minutes to whip it up! And the payout looks like you spent hours making this beauty!

Handmade Burlap Christmas Tree in Five Minutes {Easy Tutorial} #12DaysofTrees

All you need for this tree is a styrofoam cone and some ruffly burlap. Mine has some fun little “diamonds” attached to it… for that extra sparkle! I picked it up at Hobby Lobby. Now, it was a splurge for sure! So, if you wanted to be super DIY diva, you could probably feed some regular old burlap through your sewing machine and make some ruffles… I’m just not that up and up with Miss Singer… if you know what I mean.

Since my burlap ruffles were a bit of a splurge, I didn’t want to permanantly adhere the burlap to the cone, juuuuuuust in case, I changed my mind and wanted to use it on something else later. So I searched the house for some floral picks I could use to tack the burlap in place. But alas, they were nowhere to be found.

Enter Suuuuuper-Hubs!! Du-du-du-duuuuuh! Cape in tow… he took some skinny nails and made me three little pins, I could use to tack my burlap in place. We are quite the DIY team!!

With those little pins, I tacked my burlap in place at the base of the styrofoam cone, wrapped it once around, and put a second tack in place to be sure the first row of burlap completely covered the styrofoam. Make sense?

I didn’t put any more tacks on as I went up the cone… just keep wrapping…

Then, when you get to the top, that’s where I put my third pin. I just tacked the burlap right in place on the top, making sure to cover the tip of the cone.

  1. This is certainly a beautiful burlap tree with great bling…I so love your vignette of those great trees with beautiful textures!

    • Thank you, Shirley! I love all of the different textures too… but nothing beats my burlap!! I have gone back to the burlap time and time again this holiday season! I just love it! So glad you stopped by!! Hope to see you soon! 🙂

  2. Was this burlap sold by the yard? I haven’t see it at HL. How many yards did it take and how big is the Styrofoam tree?
    Leigh Anne

    • Hi, Leigh Anne…thanks for stopping by! Yes, this burlap was sold by the yard at Hobby Lobby. I bought it about a month and a half ago. I honestly cannot remember how much I purchased. But my tree is 19 inches tall and 5 inches across at the base. You can always wrap it closer together to squeeze on more burlap or spread your rows out to make it go further. I wish I could be of more help, I just don’t remember how much I purchased and I can’t measure it now that it is attached to the tree. I’m sorry. Next time I will make a note of it! I hope that helps a little! 🙂

  3. Candace,

I love this ruffled Burlap ribbon with rhinestones. I have been to Hobby Lobby several times recently have not seen this item. Is it sold in the ribbon section or at the fabric desk? Thank you for your assistance.

    • Hi there! I’m glad you like the ribbon!! At my hobby lobby, the ribbon section is by the fabric desk. This burlap ribbon is sold by the yard, so you do have to have it measured and cut. I hope that helps!! It sure is a lot of fun!! 🙂

  4. I’m sure hoping our HL has that ruffly rhinestoned burlap, that would be perfect. Ribbons are on sale for 50% off this week so I’ll be buying as much as I can afford. Might have to settle for smaller cone for this one but want to get some of that. Love the look of that with rhinestone trim, whoopie. Usually I only buy things I need when it’s on sale at either Jo-Ann’s, HL, or Michaels. If it’s not on sale I have a coupon.
Gotten so I make whatever I can with burlap, love the texture and colors, some of the burlap that has print on it. I wait til I have a coupon for the printed burlap.
Really love all your tree projects. Will look at other posts another time. Love your blog too. Happy Thanksgiving.

    • Oh, I hope they still have it too, JaneEllen! I kinda want to go buy some more myself!! It was a little pricey but I just love it!! I am really loving burlap lately… anything I can make with it, I try!! Oh, and I love that printed burlap too, but haven’t gotten my hands on any yet! I’m thinking it could make some really pretty pillows!! But then again, I wonder if I could take plain burlap and make my own print on it?! I’m sure it would take some time, but it’d be waay cheaper and handmade!! Decisions. Decisions. We’ll see!!! So glad you stopped by!! I hope you like the other trees as well!! Happy Holidays to you and yours as well!! 🙂

  5. Love, love love! Definitely sharing in my daily DIY highlights this month!!

  6. Instead of Hubby bending nails for you, try hair pins.( not bobby pins) or taylor pins which are longer and have bigger heads on them,

  7. These are really very cute!!!!

  1. […] I bought some burlap on December 5, with plans to make one of these, and also three of these. […]
