Upside Down Mason Jar Snowglobe {The Christmas Cookie Edition}

In the words of cookie monster… “C” is for cookie that’s good enough for me! But I wanted better than good enough… I wanted great! I wanted something different that no one had done before! Do you know how hard it is to come up with a unique cookie idea that has never been done!?! My friends, I think I have done it!! I think!

Christmas Tree and Mason Jar Sugar Cookies #ChristmasCookies

I have seen mason jar cookies before… in fact some really cute ones on Pinterest! But never have I seen mason jar christmas cookies inspired by this little gem. Remember my Mason Jar Snowglobes from our Holiday Home Tour?

Mason Jar Christmas Tree

I made these a few weeks ago. So when I was sitting at the kitchen table with my mom racking our brains to think of something different… this little guy popped in my head! I think it’s just perfect!! So mom and I hit the grocery store and got to work! I didn’t have a mason jar cookie cutter, but no fear, we are a resourceful couple of gals. So, I found an image of a mason jar, printed it, and cut it out. Voila… mason jar cookie outline. I used a small knife and traced around the edges to cut my cookies!

Use Paper Cut Out to Trace Mason Jar

They baked up just perfectly!! Now, you could use any ‘ol sugar cookie recipe. We grabbed one from an old church cookbook, but you could also use cookie dough from a tube! Whatever works for you… because, my friend, you’re gonna need all the time you have for the decorating!!

Brush Icing on Mason Jar Cookie

We glazed each cookie with a white powdered sugar glaze. It’s just powdered sugar and milk… just add a dab of milk until you get the consistency you want! Then mom made up a kickin’ green icing, same method, only added a drop or two of green food coloring. And our little secret… a drop of red takes the brightness away. It made the green a little more rustic, like I wanted!!

How to Make Mason Jar Christmas Cookies

I went along the outside edge with some white cookie icing we picked up at the store. And sprinkled some silver cupcake sprinkles on the bottom to mimic the zinc lid of my mason jar! So what d’ya think??

How to Make Mason Jar Christmas Cookies

I think they look like little mason jars, right?! You don’t wanna know how many trees mom and I scraped icing off of until I could get this right!! Ha ha!!

    Pinning and sharing on FB and G+

  5. OMGosh! You did it again! Making pretties in every way! I want to be Santa coming to your house so I can gobble these up!

  6. You are a genius, you and your Mom. She sounds like a pretty crafty gal also. Does she have a blog or talk thru you when needed? Your mason jar tree cookies are incredible, so glad I saw them and read your post. Any tips on getting the tree icing on easier? Or will we need to find our own way and stumble thru. I shouldn’t say “our” as I doubt I’ll be making these but looking out for other bloggers/readers when they make them. Have to admit I’m too lazy and when I bake I eat too much of what I bake. No self control when it comes to baked cookies/pies/cakes/cupcakes, told ya. I wear a path in the carpet going back and forth to the kitchen to nibble on what I bake. I’ve been known to wait til hubs gets to sleep then I sneak out to kitchen for another nibble or two, bad girl.
    Just think how much Santa will love your cookies when he comes. He might forget to go to anybody else” house.
    Love your blog and everything I’ve seen you make so far. Haven’t had time yet to go into older posts but after holidays hope to. Happy holiDAYS
